Indian students must apply for entry clearance before travelling to abroad for higher studies. The entry clearance should normally be valid for the whole length of your course plus few more months. Your permission to be in the abroad countries begins on that date and expires on the date indicated on the entry clearance.

Student visas can be obtained from the offices of the British High Commission located in the major cities of India. (Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata). Students need to prove that they have an offer acceptance from the University and have sufficient funds to cover the entire cost of studying and living in abroad.

Point Based System

Students come under Tier 4 visa category which has a point based system. A student needs to score a minimum of 40 points to have success visa. 30 points are awarded for getting the proper Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the University/College and 10 points for the maintenance of funds.

Acceptable evidence of funds

  • Education Loan from nationalised banks
  • Savings accounts in the banks
  • Fixed deposits in the banks

Non acceptable evidence of funds

  • LIC Policies
  • Employees Provident funds
  • Post Office Monthly Income Schemes
  • National Savings Certificates (NSCs)/KisanVikasPatrikas
  • Shares and Mutual Funds
  • Land and Properties
  • Other forms of funds
